Docupoint announces latest release of DrawingSearcher
VALLEJO, CALIF. — Docupoint has announced the immediate availability of DrawingSearcher-Version 2009, the flagship AutoCAD search engine application.
Originally launched in 1998, DrawingSearcher pioneered the use of full-text search and automatic DWF publishing in a single, fully integrated, application. DrawingSearcher is installed on a single computer server to provide a web browser-based search for AutoCAD drawing files. Automatically generated preview images make it easy to identify the drawing of interest from the search results pages via DrawingSearcher’s SmartZoom feature.
DrawingSearcher is designed for use with the free Autodesk Design Review application for viewing, printing and collaboration. Selecting a preview image opens a generated DWF file for viewing. DrawingSearcher is available in two flavors: Gold (allows users to SEARCH AutoCAD drawings AND other related documents created on Microsoft Office software including Word/Excel/Powerpoint/etc and Adobe PDF files and scanned files stored in TIFF or CALS format, etc.) and Silver (allows users to SEARCH only AutoCAD drawings).
Built around the Autodesk RealDWG engine and DWF Toolkit, DrawingSearcher protects the user's investment in DWG files by leveraging the core technologies used by AutoCAD.
"We are happy to be making available the latest product that supports Microsoft’s latest operating systems and AutoCAD’s high-volume installed base products," said Brad Bishop, marketing manager for Docupoint. "DrawingSearcher is to the AutoCAD community as Google is to the Internet community … allowing instant search and access to the information being sought after by our users. Of course, most AutoCAD-centric facilities do not want to share their content data with the general public, so the Google analogy stops at the edge of each organization’s self-imposed intranet firewall.”
The DrawingSearcher server application now runs on Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, or XP or Windows 2003 Server. Client computers require Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher) and the free Autodesk Design Review viewing application for collaboration and mark-up.
