Cincinnati joins FlowWorks

The City of Cincinnati has joined Seattle-based  FlowWorks and is moving its environmental monitoring data onto the FlowWorks web platform where it will be securely stored, edited, analyzed and turned into actionable information.

In the fall of 2010, ADS Environmental Services, a flow monitoring company, was bidding for services to Cincinnati and asked FlowWorks to join them to provide data management. ADS had previously enjoyed a successful partnership with FlowWorks on behalf of the City of Seattle.

ADS was  selected, with FlowWorks as their partner for data management, to provide Cincinnati with flow services for capital improvement and other modeling projects. Included are flow servicing, data management and QA/QC for over 200 monitoring stations. The data is being uploaded directly to FlowWorks, where it will be combined with other Cincinnati environmental data including historic flow metering stations, rain gauges, SCADA pump stations, and combined sewer overflow (CSO) and storm sewer overflow (SSO) sites.

“Cincinnati examined the platform from top to bottom.” said FlowWorks Operations Manager Craig Kipkie.  “Fortunately for us, they liked what they saw. FlowWorks brings people and data together, with features like editing tools, the real-time calculation engine, rainfall IDF curves and statistics, and the inflow and infiltration (I&I) estimator, causing people to notice.”

The FlowWorks web platform is used for environmental management bymunicipalities, utilities and industrial clients seeking to easily and securely bring large quantities of time-series data together in a central location. FlowWorks tools allow engineers and managers to work directly with the data to understand operating conditions and test hypotheses. Once results are known, information can quickly be transferred to documents or published automatically via reports or the web.  Cincinnati and ADS chose FlowWorks to add robust data management, graphic editing and strong analysis and reporting tools to an already excellent flow-monitoring program.
