AEC Technology Strategies sessions highlight the benefits of PIM
MANCHESTER, N.H. — The benefits of project information management (PIM) recently were highlighted in two presentations at the AEC Technology Strategies 2011 Conference, held June 9-10 in La Jolla, Calif.
At this 12th annual information technology conference for forward-thinking business and IT leaders in architecture, engineering, and construction, attendees could attend two sessions to learn more about how implementing a PIM strategy can help drive more efficient and more predictable project delivery.
At 4:30 p.m. PDT on Thursday, June 9, Newforma Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer Allen Preger presented "How the Newforma PIM Solution Connects Architecture, Engineering and Construction Firms" during a solution provider showcase session. Preger provided a high-level overview of the recently released Newforma PIM solution including Newforma Project Center Eighth Edition and its three new add-on products: Newforma Mobile, Newforma Contract Management, and Newforma Add-in for Autodesk Revit. He discussed how the new expanded solution helps architects, engineers, and construction firms enhance connection and communication between project team members to manage project delivery processes. He also explained how the Newforma PIM solution is helping them manage many aspects of their day-to-day activities, including contract and document change, relating information inside a building information model (BIM) with project information outside of BIM, and accessing project information from mobile devices such as smartphones and iPads to work more efficiently from the field.
Then, at 9:45 a.m. PDT on Friday, June 10, during a focus session, Newforma Co-Founder and Senior Technical Advisor Jim Forester, P.E., presented "Technology Frameworks for Project Teams," addressing how AECO businesses must overcome new legal, social, and technical challenges. Forester cited real-world examples of how CIOs at some of the industry's top firms are continually evolving their IT infrastructures to take advantage of the latest technologies such as virtualization, cloud computing, and mobile devices for a workforce that is constantly on the go. He explored how a firm's infrastructure must evolve to accommodate the growing demand for the ability to ensure transparency, maintain accountability, manage complexity, and facilitate communication in the face of an ever-expanding volume of information that needs to be managed to deliver a project.
