AEC executive Jay Bhatt leaves Autodesk


Autodesk Senior Vice President of AEC Solutions Jay Bhatt has left the company to become CEO of Bedford, Mass.-based enterprise software developer Progress Software. Autodesk, the largest manufacturer of AEC software in the US, announced Bhatt's departure on day one of its annual user conference, Autodesk University, in Las Vegas. Jim Lynch, Autodesk Vice President for the building group within the AEC division, will take over Bhatt's responsibilitiies on an interim basis.

"We will miss Jay but we will continue to execute on that strategy (to increase BIM adoption among building owners, architects and construction professionals)," Lynch said. "We're continuing to expand BIM across the building lifecycle."

Bhatt came to Autodesk in 2001 via its acquisition of web-based construction management solution Buzzsaw. He was instrumental in the 2002 acquisition of the Revit BIM platform and has led Autodesk's AEC division for the past six years. Lynch, a 25-year CAD industry veteran, joined Autodesk in 1997 and led the design and implementation of the company's mechanical CAD solution, Autodesk Inventor.

No timetable has been set to name a permanent replacement.
