The Nemetschek Engineering Group is pleased to announce that Scia Engineer 2012 has been tested and certified to run on Apple Macintosh OS X Hardware using Parallels. Now, structural and civil engineers can feel confident running Scia Engineer alongside their favorite Macintosh OS X software.
NVIDIA officially announced today a new line of Quadro professional graphics solutions for the latest leading mobile workstations at the SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles. Designed for engineers, industrial designers, animators, and film & video editors that need to take their work with them, these new Quadro graphics processing units (GPUs) feature Kepler, the fastest, most efficient GPU architecture. Kepler delivers impressive performance gains over previous generations with the same power budget as the previous generation Quadro mobile graphics solutions.
Today AMD launched the AMD FirePro A300 Series Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) for entry-level and mainstream desktop workstations at SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles. Featuring AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology, the new AMD FirePro A300 Series APUs are designed for users who demand a high-performance computing platform to power their computer-aided design, building information modeling, and media and entertainment (M&E) workflows. The new AMD FirePro A300 Series APUs combine industry-certified performance and reliability for professional applications with world-class 24-hour customer support, delivering highly-tuned performance and robust feature support across a range of professional applications and tools.
An innovative hybrid parallelization using multiple GPUs and MPI dramatically reduces solution time for structural analysis and sensitivity calculations. Offloading the intensive matrix computation on the GPU and using heterogeneous computing improves performance. Users also benefit from accelerated access to compute resources "in the cloud."
Altair, a global provider of simulation technology and engineering services, is featuring another of its leading HyperWorks simulation solutions, RADIOSS, accelerated by NVIDIA professional graphics processing units (GPUs), at SIGGRAPH 2012, this week in Los Angeles.
With the introduction of new compute shaders as part of Open GL 4.3 today at SIGGRAPH 2012 in Los Angeles, the Khronos Group says the Open Gl cross-platform graphics API is now more advanced than Microsoft's Directx platform. OpenGL is used to deliver 3D graphics in most CAD/CAM/CAE applications on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
Shipments of GPUs conformant with the Khronos OpenGL ES family of graphics APIs (Application Programming Interface) will reach 1 billion units per annum by 2014 according to Imagination Technologies, a supplier of mobile and embedded GPU (Graphics Processor Unit) technology.
Imagination Technologies, a multimedia technologies company, today announced its Caustic Visualizer viewport plug-in for Autodesk Maya 2013. Imagination will be demonstrating Caustic Visualizer’s highly interactive full-frame performance on the new PowerVR low-power ray tracing hardware reference platform at SIGGRAPH 2012 in Los Angeles.
Mapping the medals, a GIS story map from Esri, features a regularly updated feed of medals counts (overall, gold, silver and bronze) for each country competing in this year’s games. Click on any of the circles — the biggest ones belonging to medal leaders USA and China — to get a detailed breakdown of all medal winners from each nation's Olypmic team.
Meridian Systems recently released Prolog 9.5, the latest version of its project management software. The new version provides visibility into project performance through cash-flow forecasting, workflow, and BIM collaboration features. I recently had a chance to talk with Jon Fingland, head of Meridian's AEC business unit, about the new version and other news happening at Meridian and parent company Trimble.
Dell recently unveiled two new third -generation Intel Ivy Bridge CPU workstations for the CAD/BIM market and the rest of its portable workstation users.
The Dell Precision M4700 is the more portable (and more affordable) of the new line with a 15-inch display and entry-level to mid-range professional graphics. The 17-inch display, high-end professional graphics options and large storage make the Dell Precision M6700 a bulkier laptop that could also serve as a replacement for your desktop. Both have new professional GPU options from Nvidia Quadro and AMD FirePro.

How can you make your project proposals stand out in order to win work without losing time and money?
In this presentation, you’ll learn about new ways to quickly create more realistic proposals of design alternatives that demonstrate a better understanding of project needs, more clearly explain project designs, and help you win work.
Get to 30% Design Faster Thursday, August 8th, 2013
Once you win an infrastructure project, how does your team provide owners, review agencies, clients and other stakeholders with a more solid understanding of your design intent?
This webcast presentation will present innovative approaches that show how you can easily combine 2D CAD, GIS, raster, and 3D models, enabling you to accelerate your infrastructure design process. It will also show how you can easily use rich visualizations to validate design decisions faster.
Get to “Yes” Faster with Agency and Community Stakeholders Thursday, September 12th, 2013
Review agencies need to understand and approve projects before they can be built, but the approval process is often slow and linear. Non-technical public stakeholders, such as surrounding residents and business owners, struggle understanding 2D plans and their confusion can lead to expensive roadblocks.
Learn how you can use compelling simulations and animated 3D visualizations to better communicate project alternatives and community impact in a format that is more interactive and easily understood by agencies and non-technical audiences alike.
