GRAPEVINE, TEXAS — Red Seat Software, a Structural Engineering Software Solutions Provider for S-FRAME Software, Inc. and Tilt-Up Design Systems, LLC., announced the availability of additional "how to" videos to augment their S-CONCRETE Design product for reinforced concrete beam design. In less than 5 minutes, a viewer can readily see how quickly and how easily an engineer or designer can design, analyze, and code-check a reinforced concrete column or wall section. 


» Altus introduces APS-T GNSS survey receiver   Altus Positioning Systems

TORRANCE, CALIF. — Altus Positioning Systems introduced APS-T GNSS survey receiver, which provides global real-time 10-cm positioning using the TERRASTAR-D Precise Point Positioning (PPP) augmentation service. The new APS-T contains a Septentrio GNSS receiver with an embedded L-band modem for receiving TERRASTAR-D data for computing positions with the PPP technique. It is designed to provide a low-cost, real-time decimeter-level GNSS surveying solution without the need for a local reference station with UHF radios or cellular coverage from Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) networks.

» Survey: Smartphone use by contractors jumped 35 percent in past year   Eric Mower + Associates

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Contractors' use of smartphones while on the job jumped 35 percent from last year, according to new research from EMA Contractors, a specialty group at Eric Mower + Associates. While the use of tablets (i.e., iPad) rose nearly 54 percent over last year (overall, 22 percent of contractors are using tablets), most contractors (68 percent) said they use smartphones as part of their workday. 


» Bentley Systems supports Water For People to help improve water systems in emerging economies   Bentley Systems Inc.

EXTON, PA. — Bentley Systems, Incorporated contributed $100,000 to Water For People in support of the organization’s work improving water systems in emerging economies around the world. Bentley has also donated a selection of eight software products from its portfolio, including MicroStation, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, FlowMaster, and Bentley Map. The software will be used by Water For People team members to design, engineer, and construct water systems, as well as to map the functionality of water points in every district.

BURNABY, B.C. — Employers continue to be concerned about the risk and liability posed by employee use of mobile devices while driving on the job. Seven in 10 companies have adopted written policies designed to curb employee distracted driving, but only 32 percent are confident that current enforcement methods are effective at achieving compliance.
