WASHINGTON, D.C. — Images from Landsat satellites provided free to the public by the Department of the Interior's U.S. Geological Survey were the starting points for "a new breakthrough" reported by Time and announced on the Official Google Blog (http://googleblog.blogspot.com). Using its Earth Engine technology, Google has compiled decades of Landsat images into a new, interactive time-lapse experience.
SAN FRANCISCO — Autodesk, Inc. is launching a new version of Autodesk BIM 360 Glue, a cloud-based Building Information Modeling (BIM) solution. Autodesk BIM 360 Glue extends the BIM process from design to construction by providing all stakeholders access to project information for model coordination and clash detection via desktop, mobile, and web.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — The International Code Council (ICC) and Fiatech have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that supports a shared vision to advance the effectiveness and efficiency of building design, construction and code compliance through the use of advanced technologies and practices represented by the Fiatech AutoCodes Project. AutoCodes — automatic code checking — is a significant development that moves regulatory compliance into the digital age on par with modern commercial design and construction industry practices.
A nationwide group of Building Information Modeling users, known as the BIMForum, is seeking industry input on a proposed set of standards establishing how complete Building Information Models (BIMs) need to be for different stages of the design and construction process. Once finalized, the new standards, known as Level of Development Specifications, will allow everyone to clearly articulate how complete model elements for the different building systems are or need to be throughout the design and construction process.
TEL AVIV, ISRAEL — Whitewater Technologies (WWT), a global technology provider of water network management software solutions to utilities and industrials, signed a cooperation agreement with Brown and Caldwell (BC). The cooperation will leverage BC’s unique management consulting and IT integration experience with the WaterWall and BlueBox systems to deliver turnkey solutions to align utilities IT and OT environments to drive network efficiencies. Currently, teams from both WWT and BC are working together on opportunities, team development, training and certification.
GHENT, BELGIUM AND MERRIMACK, N.H. — Bricsys, a global provider of dwg engineering design software brought to market under the BricsCAD brand, announced the immediate availability of the BricsCAD V13.2 update for the Windows operating system. This release further extends the BricsCAD software with a native 64-bit version and with support for the 2013 .dwg format. It also improves project collaboration through a built-in connection with the cloud-based Chapoo services.
DENVER — Prefabrication and Modular construction are showing tremendous promise for improving construction productivity, cost, and efficiency. According to a recent McGraw-Hill study, their use is reducing construction schedules by four weeks or more, cutting project budgets by 6 percent or more, and reducing jobsite waste by 5 percent or more. As building information modeling’s (BIM) use becomes more widespread and sophisticated, it is expected that prefab and modular construction will increase dramatically in the coming years.
BUDAPEST – GRAPHISOFT announced ArchiCAD 17, the latest version of its award-winning building information modeling (BIM) software. The new release delivers capabilities that greatly simplify the modeling and documentation of buildings even when the model contains a high level of detail. ArchiCAD’s end-to-end BIM workflow allows the model to stay live until the very end of the project.
FRAMINGHAM, MASS. ― Rand Worldwide announced its IMAGINiT Technologies division is unveiling the latest enhancements in the 2014 portfolio of Autodesk design and engineering software, as well as highlighting IMAGINiT’s own Scan to BIM 2014 software. The “Know It. All. Events” are scheduled for May 8, 2013 with additional on-demand content available on IMAGINiT’s ProductivityNOW Portal.
RESTON, VA. — Android and iPhone users can now use their mobile devices as digital topo maps, leveraging U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) maps together with the power of GPS to zoom in on their precise location while hiking, biking, running, or any other activity that benefits from precision navigation. The type of data that are available includes USGS imagery and topographic maps from The National Map, as well as road and contour layers.
